After a week of Indian summer, Halloween arrived with gorgeous sunshine and cool air. The sunshine glowed spectacularly off the autumn leaves creating almost a glow of burgundy, gold, and bronze. In addition to the weather treat, my little cabbage white garage butterfly come fluttering by, letting me know they weren’t quite gone yet.
The motorcycle ride was wonderful. My right hand didn’t get numb, only my arms felt any bit of chill, and I had a blast feeling my rear tire slide out as I went around on the gravel. I really am beginning to wish for a small dirt bike to rag on the gravel and feel the back-end slide around. My U-turns were nice and tight though I still can’t quite get to full lock.
Since I had spotted my little cabbage white, I kept my eyes peeled for more butterflies, but I didn’t spot any during the ride. I did see a small monarch cross in front as I was getting in the car after the ride. But the squirrels were rather entertaining as they worked at gathering their winter food stash. One lucky fellow darted in front of the Rocket, stopped just past the front wheel, then thought better of it and scampered off the road.
More Halloween decorations were up, although some people didn’t have their’s inflated. The skeleton rock band now has a group of fans sitting in their Jeep (real Jeep) rocking out. There were cute ghosts playing peekaboo behind jack o’ lanterns and even a small dragon lurking in someone’s yard.
The traffic was rather busy as people darted out and about to get last minute Halloween essentials (I guess). It just helped to keep me focused as my mind was in a mood to wander. At one point during one of my U-turns, I noted how deep a lean I was in on the R Nine T, and I realized I would be in trouble if it went over further as my one leg would not support a 500+ pound motorcycle. But as I’ve written before, my motorcycle has great balance, and it really makes slow-speed maneuvers fun. I can’t wait for my first November ride.
